Abstract
  • Academic communities frequently encounter difficulties in keeping up with continuously evolving conference information that is dispersed across numerous digital platforms. This fragmentation often results in missed opportunities, reduced research visibility, and challenges in academic planning. To address this issue, this paper presents the development of CONLERT prototype, a mobile application specifically designed to streamline access to academic conference information through automated, centralised, and personalised event alerts. The application aims to support researchers, educators, and postgraduate students by providing timely updates that align with their academic interests. The development of CONLERT followed a systematic process involving user-centred design principles to ensure an intuitive and efficient user interface (UI) and user experience (UX). Real-time database structuring was implemented using Firebase to support dynamic data retrieval, secure authentication, data storage, and push notifications. A key feature of CONLERT is its integration of artificial intelligence–enabled automation through Browse.ai, an intelligent web extraction agent trained to gather conference data directly from online sources. This automated extraction process eliminates the need for manual updates and ensures that users receive accurate and up-to-date information. To facilitate seamless data management, the system incorporates Airtable as an intermediate data repository and Zapier as a workflow automation tool to synchronise data between Browse.ai and Firebase efficiently. The prototype underwent usability evaluation, and the findings indicate that CONLERT is user-friendly, responsive, and effective in providing personalised academic event alerts. Users reported that the application simplifies the process of discovering conferences relevant to their research fields and enhances their ability to stay informed. Overall, the study demonstrates the significant potential of AI-driven automation in enhancing accessibility, efficiency, and relevance of academic information delivery. CONLERT serves as a practical example of how mobile applications integrated with AI workflows can support the needs of modern academic communities.
