Analyzing Tourists’ Intentions to Visit Green Hotels in Bangladesh: The Mediating Role of Emotion

Abstract
  • Due to growing consumer awareness of environmental sustainability, the hotel industry is adopting eco-friendly practices at an accelerating rate. Green hotels aim to lessen their adverse effects on the environment while still satisfying customer needs and turning a profit with the aid of environmental initiatives. Though this kind of travel is becoming more and more popular, little research has examined the choices made by Bangladeshi tourists regarding green hotels. This study uses the cognitive-affective-conative paradigm to explain how these factors influence attitudes, emotions, and behaviors. It looks at how perceived value, perceived cost, perceived consumer effectiveness, and trust affect travelers' behavioral intentions to choose green hotels in Bangladesh. Using a quantitative approach, structured questionnaires were used to collect data from Bangladeshi tourists who were at least eighteen years old and had stayed in eco-friendly hotels in the preceding five years. Preliminary analysis was conducted using SPSS, whereas structural modeling and hypothesis testing were conducted using SmartPLS and bootstrapping. The results show that while perceived value, trust, and perceived customer efficacy positively affect emotional responses and attitudes, which in turn affect behavioral intentions, perceived cost has a non-linear connection with purchase intention. The findings contribute to the body of knowledge on green consumer behavior and offer legislators and hotel management helpful guidance on how to integrate environmental and psychological considerations into marketing strategies. The paper also recommends establishing a national green hotel certification authority and conducting further research in broader traveler demographics and geographic regions in order to evaluate and broaden the proposed model.
