Abstract
  • This study was conducted to analyze the noise at IBS block manufacturing plant and construction sites that use the IBS blockwork system method. There were three phases involved in implementing this study. The first phase was a field observation and interview with workers at the manufacturing plant and the construction site. The observations and interviews were conducted to collect relevant activities involved in the manufacturing of blocks and construction processes and also to identify the sources of noise involved. The second phase was the measurement of the noise level by using the Sound Level Meter (SLM) tool and interviewing workers who have high potential with noise exposure during block manufacturing and the construction process. Lastly, the third phase was the noise analysis to provide information on the level of noise and the factors involved during the activities. The findings had shown that the highest average noise level recorded was 105.3 dBA for the activity at the open mold area at the IBS block manufacturing plant and 90.2 dBA for roof trusses installations at the construction site at a 1-meter distance. Nevertheless, the result also had shown that the workers were not exposed to noise level for more than 115 dBA. Therefore, this study aimed to provide information and exposure to employers on the high-sounding activities that may have long-term health effects on the employees. It was also to provide control measures for these noises and create awareness for employees who work in the IBS block manufacturing plant and in a construction site that use IBS blockwork system as a construction method.
