A pilot study on online education as an option in Malaysia

Abstract
  • This study explores online education as an extra option in Malaysia. This is because the country aims to be a global educational hub and online education is another avenue which we can consider by offering it to both local and international/foreign students. In a survey conducted among students in a private university which is located in Northern Perak, the student respondents self-reported that they had learned the course materials better via online teaching-and-learning (OTL) as compared to in-class lectures. Moreover, they also participated more actively in class during OTL. This finding augurs well for the future of online education in the country despite the survey’s small sample size of 77 student respondents. This is indicative that further exploration of online education as an option in Malaysia should be considered besides brick and mortar, physical classes.
