Abstract
This research is dedicated to exploring the actors of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators on knowledge retention among educators of Jiangxi Province, China, in a dynamic context. The problems of the sustainability of institutional knowledge in educational field and hence the impacts of this to the rapid modernizationals are the main targets of this research. In this paper the authors examine factors that motivate work adaptation including: acknowledgement of performance, promotion of career development, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and support of organizational well-being. The results show that both types of motivation significantly influence the mediating path from organizational practices to knowledge retention, where intrinsic motivation has a higher effect as compared to extrinsic motivation. The necessary for educational institutions to mix up extrinsic rewards with the strategies increasing personal growth and satisfaction is interemphasized by the results. This research has been added to the literature by suggesting that the successful knowledge management and retention in educational sector is due to the intrinsic and extrinsic motivating factors, therefore offering both theoretical and practical implications to the institutional leaders and policymakers on the matter of improving the retention of human capital and the intergenerational learning systems.
