Abstract
  • This study analyzes technology as a critical source of organizational survival, focusing on the interface among business models, strategy, and innovation. Using Business Model Theory (Damle, 2018), Competitive Strategy Theory (Porter, 1996), and Disruptive Innovation Theory (Christensen, 1997; 2016), the study adopts a qualitative and conceptual orientation augmented with case studies on Netflix, Amazon, Tesla, Airbnb, and Southwest Airlines. The findings reveal that changes rendered possible by technology to business models, strategic choices, and trade-offs are necessary for the sustained competitive advantage. It differentiates between disruptive innovation that confronts incumbents at the competitor level, and paradigm-shifting inventions, like cloud and AI, that change industries at the systemic level. All perspectives highlight that organizational survival is dependent on business model innovation that is intertwined with strategic clarity and its adaptability to disruptive threats as well as systemic transformations rather than on any incremental alienation. The research provides managers with some recommendations, suggests policy directions for promoting digital transformation, and rather opens avenues for the future research on the amalgamation of strategic frameworks in technology-driven environments.
