Abstract
  • In recent years, the integration of technology into education has become increasingly prevalent, with educators seeking innovative ways to enhance student learning engagement. One such technology that has gained significant attention is short video technology. This literature review aims to explore the impact of short video technology on student learning engagement, examining the advantages, disadvantages, and challenges associated with its use. Short video technology refers to the use of videos that are brief in duration, typically ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes. These videos can be created by teachers, students, or professionals, and can cover a wide range of topics and subjects. One of the primary reasons for utilizing short video technology in the classroom is its potential to improve student learning engagement. Research has shown that when students are exposed to visual and auditory stimuli, they are more likely to be actively involved in the learning process. Short videos can captivate students' attention, stimulate their curiosity, and promote active participation. Furthermore, short video technology offers several advantages for student learning. It allows for the presentation of complex information in a concise and easily understandable format. Additionally, short videos can be accessed at any time, providing students with the flexibility to review content at their own pace. Previous research has explored the impact of short video technology on student learning engagement. These studies have found that short videos can enhance student motivation, attention, and comprehension. Also, they have shown that short video technology can be effectively utilized in a variety of educational settings, including traditional classrooms, online courses, and blended learning environments to enhance student learning engagement. These activities allow integration of multimedia elements, interactive features, and collaborative opportunities. Research has shown that technology-based activities can improve student understanding, critical thinking skills, and creativity that may facilitate student collaboration, enabling students to work together on projects, share ideas, and provide feedback to one another. However, educators must consider the disadvantages and challenges associated with accessibility, internet connectivity, the need for appropriate technological infrastructure, potential distractions, technical difficulties, and the need for educators to possess the necessary skills to create and implement effective videos.
