Abstract
  • The paper aims to investigate the relation between the initiatives aimed at the work-life balance and the retention of the teaching staff in the education institutions in Jiangxi, China with a special emphasis on the mediating role of job satisfaction. As teacher attrition remains to be a big problem in the long-term sustainability of good quality education, the paper considers the impact of the organizational strategies on the leaving of teachers such as flexible work arrangements, leave benefits, family-friendly policies, professional development opportunities, as well as health and wellness initiatives on the intention of teaching staff to remain in their profession. The paper is designed in a quantitative format whereby questionnaire forms are filled up by the primary school teachers in various parts of Jiangxi. The analysis is statistical in nature where it is investigated whether there is a direct or indirect link between the independent variables and the staff on retention, in the case of job satisfaction, it is considered as the mediating variable. It is expected that the results of this research will provide empirical data for the educational policymakers and the school managers, thus adding to the development of policy on evidence based retention programs which prioritize the well-being and thriving of teachers. The present research enriches the small and yet precious literature on the rural educational systems in China as it gives human resource practices in the education sector not only tips but also practical approaches.
