Abstract
  • This research investigates the comparative decision-making process of employees mainly in Malaysia’s private sector that influence them to choose between career and salary as primary motivators in job selection and to stay in their position in the company. By using the quantitative method, the data were gathered from 100 private sector employees that varied from different backgrounds of industries through structured online surveys. The results show that most of the respondents (63%) prioritize getting a higher salary, mainly because of the high living cost that keeps increasing and the need to have financial security. Meanwhile, another (37%) respondents show the importance and need value of career advancement opportunities for long-term professional growth and job security. The study emphasizes both salary and career play their own significant role in job satisfaction and employee retention driven by factors and importance that vary based on the individual’s needs. These findings provide valuable insight for organizations and policymakers in improving human capital management strategies in Malaysia's competitive private sector market.
