Abstract
  • This study investigates the issues of visual interpretation and aesthetic reception of Nanchang porcelain panel painting, a traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage, within a cross-cultural aesthetic context. Taking Chinese Nanchang porcelain panel Paintings and German Meissen ceramic painting paintings as the primary objects of analysis, the study adopts Panofsky’s iconological framework to compare the similarities and differences in their visual language. The findings reveal that while both traditions share commonalities in their use of natural motifs and decorative functions, they diverge significantly in terms of color symbolism, compositional logic, and underlying cultural meanings. The results indicate that visual language is learnable and can be guided; through interpretive strategies such as visual explanation, cultural annotation, and interactive presentation, international audiences’ aesthetic understanding of Chinese ceramic painting can be effectively enhanced. This research offers both theoretical support and practical insight for the cross-cultural appreciation and dissemination of Chinese ceramic art.
