Abstract
This paper aims to debate the appreciation of art in children’s traditional games to organize strategies, tactics and the use of materials aimed at forming creativity through the application of ethnomathematical concepts. The main purpose of the study was to identify the types of children’s traditional games using pen and paper mediums as cultural heritage that need to be documented which are Bingo games, SOS, empire and ABC. The study of the relationship between the formalistic aspects of art and mathematical culture was done through the design of games in the 80s or 90s that were played manually. Most children in the past created games using the objects around them because they were readily available. The calculation system and cultural thinking is a concept linked in ethnomathematics to form an expression of children's creativity. The written and visual data collection methodology in this study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Documentation, visual recording and observation methods are used to collect information about the research being studied. The findings of the study show that children's traditional games are closely related to the process of forming mathematical cultural values through creative thinking that is obtained informally. This process occurs when the production of game design uses tools and materials found in the environment, game methods and the generation of creativity among the players or producers involved. The implications of the study show that children's traditional games can be seen and appreciated from the perspective of mathematical culture. It can have a positive impact on the construction of the new generation's self-concept.
