Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the key influences on user preference for recreational parks in Seri Iskandar, Perak, emphasising on comfort in physical, social, and environmental aspects in accordance with the recreational needs and demands of local residents. Location and accessibility, safety, facilities and maintenance were considered as five (5) keys of influencing user preference when choosing a recreation area. Therefore, this study analyses the key influencing user preference on location and accessibility were good accessibility shows a scenario where users can effortlessly access parks via multiple means, modes, and travel routes for recreation, exercise, and leisure activities. The author conducted a study involving 95 respondents living in urban areas of Seri Iskandar that could influence their decision on selecting Tasik Iskandar, Taman Awam Seri Iskandar, or Dataran Seluang as a location for recreational activities The findings showed that Tasik Iskandar was the most preferred park attributed to park distance from residential area, accessibility of recreational areas in terms of ease of access and connectivity to main roads, as well as the availability of public transport options. Understanding the key factors that influence user preferences allows local authorities to plan, design and develop the recreational areas, especially urban parks, to better align with community needs. The development of recreational park that are more inclusive, functional, and resilient may thus contribute to an improvement in the well-being of the community.
