Critique of journal article: The effects of plebiscite on the peoples of the Mambilla plateau, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State 1959-2002

Abstract
  • The critiquing of this journal article is however born out of several concerns. Besides promoting the culture of academic exercise, it also aims at contributing to the improvement of quality of research on this subject being considered by the authors. Similarly, this is informed by the fact that the plebiscite is a global issue, it is therefore germane not only to view it from a broader perspective but to also apply a robust analysis in discussing the subject. This study made used of qualitative method of research and looks at the journal article from the positive and negative perspectives and then drew a conclusion. The study revealed that the sources used for the article were only secondary sources thereby neglecting the primary sources of data. Moreover, this is tantamount to the authors giving a mono-causal interpretation as the raison d’etre of the plebiscite on peoples of the Mambilla plateau, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State. This finding seeks to draw the attention of the authors and budding historians to always consult the right sources of data in conducting a scientific research. In conclusion, it de-emphasized the obsolete stereotype view of history that was common in the medieval era, which ascribed every event and occurrence to divine providence.
