Abstract
The academic building is primarily used by students and lecturers for teaching and learning, research, administrative as well as sports and recreational activities. Maintaining the building in good condition is essential to support these functions. However, building defects are common and can arise in both new and older structures. Defects to the building is visibly noticeable and the affected components cannot be used effectively. This study aimed to identify defects in the Quantity Surveying building, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Perak. This research conducted through visual inspections and photographic documentation, which were compiled into a table for analysis. The findings revealed 17 types of defects, with cracks being the most frequently observed issue following by dampness, moisture and peeling paint. Overall, the building is still functional for its primary purposes, but it requires extensive repair and maintenance work. The study concludes that implementing a regular and scheduled inspection and maintenance program. It is essential to address minor issues early to prevent further deterioration. To ensure the building remains functional at all times and extend its overall lifespan.
