A preliminary study on tourism in local cultural heritage metaverse environment

Abstract
  • Metaverse enables for accelerated duplication in our digital and real lives in economics, sociability, educational, productivity, commerce, and entertainment value. Connecting people from all over the world by sharing an online communication space. Metaverse needs in-depth support and research so that this virtual system can provide benefits in various fields rather than just centered on profit and imagination for entertainment alone. This research is a preliminary attempt to fill knowledge gaps in the field of local cultural heritage and to examines the metaverse as a virtual system through a socio-technical system perspective. A survey was employed to collect data and distributed to a voluntary respondent via online communication medium. The study was carried out for three days with 70 participations from different background respondents. The aim of this investigation is to examine at user knowledge and awareness for cultural heritage tourism in Metaverse. The result found that metaverse is a socio-technical system that has potential in order to improve the management of cultural heritage, to provide significant virtual view of local cultural heritage as well as attract tourists to visit the local cultural heritage site to boost economy sector. The outcome of this survey will be used as a guide to an upcoming metaverse app in local cultural heritage.
