Employee satisfaction with performance appraisal exercises in open and distance learning universities

Abstract
  • Studies found that less than 6% of employees viewed their performance evaluations as effective, which is insufficient to foster job satisfaction (Teckchandani & Pichler, 2015). Therefore, the objective of this paper is to examine employee’s satisfaction towards their’s experience with annual performance appraisal exercise in open and distance learning (ODL) university. This is a descriptive study leveraging a quantitative research design. a survey questionnaire that had been adopted and modified from earlier studies is used to gather the data. SPSS 22.0 software were used for data analysis. 241 respondents (academics and non-academics) had responded to the questionnaire. The Cronbach's alpha values for the job satisfaction constract is 0.937. Likert scale used is from 1 to 4. the results indicated that the mean score for all 5 items for the satisfaction with the performance appraisal are in satisfactory level which there is ranging from 2.51 to 3.05. this demonstrates that all respondents were happy and satisfied with the performance appraisal exercise which carried out yearly.
