Abstract
  • Natural light plays a vital role in providing benefits to occupants in a certain space and greatly impacts students learning performance. Many students nowadays have issues in which insufficient exposure to natural light could be detrimental to their academic performance. Despite the growing interest in how natural lighting affects students learning, there is still a lack of a comprehensive and systematic review of the research. This review fills this gap by methodically investigating how natural lighting affects student performance. Thus, the goal of this systematic review is to use Atlas.ti 9 to compile research on the impact of natural lighting on student performance from 2019 to 2023. One hundred peer-reviewed journal articles were found using a keyword search and a snowballing filtering method to look for inclusion criteria from SCOPUS, Science Direct, and Web of Science. However, only thirty papers were used to evaluate the final articles after the inclusion and exclusion process. A thematic assessment of these 30 papers identified 28 initial codes identifying and categorizing in 4 clusters as follows: architectural design, passive design, ergonomic, and sustainability. The discovery is likely to enhance natural lighting in buildings. For future research, can be beneficial to study of natural lighting relationship with student academic performance.
