Abstract
  • This study has been carried out to examine Vietnamese undergraduate students’ learning characteristics using questionnaires and teacher reflections. Data were obtained from 119 students studying English language at the Department of Foreign Languages, Yersin University of Dalat, Vietnam as sophomores, juniors, and seniors. For analysis, descriptive statistics were employed to find out some salient straits of the attitude, motivation, and behaviour held by the participants, while Cronbach’s alpha was utilized to estimate the scale internal consistency. Repeated one-way ANOVAs were performed to determine if there was any difference in each statement among students according to their gender and the levels of the academic year. Pearson product-moment analysis was conducted to find out the correlation that exists in each pair of statements. The results showed that the students participating in the study were slightly favourable towards active learning practices. It was also revealed that significant differences in both attitudes and behaviours of the students based on their levels of the academic year existed in 3 among 8 statements while that of those based on gender was found only in 1 statement. The findings may be meaningful for both the teacher and education administrator.
