A study on student’s readiness towards blended learning methodology in University College of Yayasan Pahang (UCYP)

Abstract
  • With the advent and dispersion of technology, all aspects of human life have been affected and there is no exception for education. Online technologies are being used growingly and correspondingly scholars have proposed the idea of online learning and blended learning (BL). BL, as an approach, blending face-to-face and online learning, is gaining popularity globally due to fourth industrial revolution. Although several Malaysian universities have conducted studies on BL readiness, and even are using it, University College of Yayasan Pahang (UCYP), known as an Adaptive University, is attempting to keep abreast of the cutting edge technology to fulfill the requirement of fourth industrial revolution in which students will acquire the knowledge, skills and entrepreneurial mindset required for future job market. Hence, a study is needed to be carried out to explore students’ readiness for BL. To this end, the current study was undertaken to investigate UCYP students’ readiness for BL. The study adopted a survey approach using questionnaire involving a sample of 284 students who were selected randomly. The students are from nine faculties/departments with 9 programs. The study proposed a model and tested it through analyzing the survey data. The study factors include: Learning Flexibility (LF), Online Learning (OL), Online Interaction (OI), Classroom Learning (CL), Study Management (SM), Technology (Tech) and BL readiness. The findings show that 4 out of 6 hypotheses were approved. It was found that the factors of Tech (sig=.000), OI (sig=.000), SM (sig=.028), OL (sig=.058) strongly and significantly have correlation with blended learning readiness (BLR) and predict students’ readiness for BL, while LF and CL have no significant correlations with BLR. The findings of current study have implications for students, lecturers, management, stakeholders and policy makers.
