Abstract
  • The research aims at identifying how Wuhu’s conventional shopping malls have transformed and how interaction design elements may be applied to improve customer experiences and thus sustain these shopping mall’s competitive advantage. In this paper, semi structured interviews, surveys and observations were employed to collect qualitative data needed to assess the state of these shopping centers. Data collected indicate that old structure, unattractive outlook, and limited engagement programs are the main culprits for low customer interest. This Research indicates that for the interiors of the building to be renovated suitable framework for implementation is the integration of Virtual Reality and Participatory design. The following guidelines give the urban planners, designers and policymakers some ideas to strengthen traditional shopping centres in a time of changing consumer culture.
