Abstract
  • According to the national education development roadmap, Fujian Province has implemented some educational reforms. The plans aim to improve secondary vocational institutions' operations by 2025 and enhance piano education. Despite extensive scholarly study of secondary vocational piano education through various lenses such as music pedagogy in vocational institutions, drama teaching methodologies, and piano instruction techniques Fujian piano teachers, particularly from novice to expert levels, have not been empirically compared. This study examines how novice and expert piano teachers at Fujian secondary vocational colleges teach group piano. Interviews, classroom observations, and comparative case analysis of textual materials provide early empirical findings supporting the effective integration of novice and expert piano teachers in secondary vocational piano teaching practice. Expert teachers use more systematic and adaptive methods to adjust to pupils' unique variations and learning needs, according to research. In contrast, novice instructors rely on basic instruction and uncomplicated tasks, have limited reflective capacities, and experience increased teaching demands and unpleasant emotions. This study offers a novel perspective on secondary vocational school piano training using the expert-novice paradigm. It also provides practical recommendations on training and teaching secondary vocational school piano teachers using multi-source case studies.
