Abstract
This systematic literature review examines psychosocial and mental health outcomes in adults with autistic traits by synthesizing findings from 25 experimental studies. The review highlights the effectiveness of interventions such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based approaches, emotion regulation therapies, social skills training, and neurodiversity-affirming models in reducing anxiety and depression, improving emotional regulation, enhancing social functioning, and fostering identity acceptance. Despite these promising results, critical gaps remain, including methodological variability, reliance on self-reported outcomes, limited participant diversity, and a lack of longitudinal follow-up data. The review also explores the role of cultural norms, including collectivism and individualism, and psychological factors like fear of negative evaluation and camouflaging behaviors, in shaping the manifestation and perception of autistic traits. These findings underscore the need for culturally sensitive, multidimensional interventions to address these complexities. Future research must address these gaps to strengthen the evidence base and support inclusive, sustainable strategies aimed at enhancing the quality of life for adults with autistic traits.
