Pengetahuan sivik dalam kalangan mahasiswa: Tinjauan di Universiti Utara Malaysia

Abstract
  • Artikel ini membincangkan dapatan kajian berkenaan tahap pengetahuan sivik dalam kalangan mahasiswa hasil tinjauan yang dilakukan di kampus Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Seramai 549 orang pelajar daripada pelbagai program dan latarbelakang akademik di UUM telah terlibat dalam tinjauan yang dilakukan secara dalam talian sewaktu pandemik Covid-19 sedang melanda negara. Salah satu objektif kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti tahap pengetahuan sivik dalam kalangan pelajar berdasarkan item-item pengukuran yang dihasilkan daripada sorotan kajian lepas, pemerhatian terhadap isu-isu semasa dan analisis ke atas Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia 2015-2025. Satu skala pengukuran tahap pengetahuan sivik telah dihasilkan dan mencatatkan nilai kebolehpercayaan yang tinggi. Hasil tinjauan dan analisis data mendapati tahap pengetahuan sivik dalam kalangan pelajar adalah tinggi. Dapatan ini dilihat sebagai suatu indikator yang memberangsangkan memandangkan ianya selari dengan agenda pendidikan tinggi negara secara khususnya dan tuntutan mewujudkan warganegara yang berfikiran sivik secara amnya. Hasil kajian ini juga umumnya selari dengan kajian lepas yang mendapati suasana kehidupan dalam alam universiti banyak menyumbang kepada kesedaran yang tinggi dalam kalangan pelajar terhadap tanggungjawab dan peranan mereka sebagai warganegara. Secara teoritikalnya hasil kajian ini juga menggambarkan situasi pandemik yang sedang melanda dunia berkemungkinan telah menghasilkan kesan tidak langsung kepada para pelajar dalam bentuk kesedaran kendiri yang tinggi terhadap kepentingan pengetahuan dan tingkah laku sivik. Meskipun begitu, disebabkan skop kajian ini yang terhad, maka keupayaan generalisasi dapatan kajian ini juga adalah terhad dan memerlukan kajian susulan mencakupi populasi kajian yang lebih luas.
