Abstract
This study explores the implementation of a community engagement initiative aimed at addressing the gap in housekeeping training for small-scale accommodation service operators in Terengganu, Malaysia. Housekeeping is a fundamental aspect of service quality in the hospitality industry, especially in regions like Terengganu, where tourism significantly contributes to local economic development. However, small-scale operators often face challenges in maintaining service standards due to limited access to formal training. This study aims to identify key challenges faced by accommodation service operators in housekeeping practices and to evaluate the effectiveness of a community-based training program. Using a qualitative methodology, in-depth interviews were conducted with three informants to examine their needs, challenges, and perceptions regarding housekeeping training. The outcomes of the study include practical recommendations for replicating the program in other communities. These findings are expected to enhance service quality while empowering local service operators and supporting the broader growth of Terengganu’s hospitality sector.
