Abstract
  • Waqf lands are pieces of land donated by a donor as a voluntary charitable act which turns into a foundation of fund collection for the social and economic development of a country. In Malaysia, Waqf lands are placed within the authority of the State Islamic Religious Councils (SIRCs). The SIRCs are responsible as the exclusive trustee to govern, manage, as well as develop these lands in a systematic and also in an effective manner for the benefit of the Ummah. SIRCs are authorised to govern these lands with the best standard of practice and appropriate management system. Unfortunately, the great potential of Waqf land has yet to be materialized. This research has systematically reviewed the literature of Waqf land and analysed the subject matter according to the related themes and variables. This study has established that SIRCs are faced with several challenges such as insufficient funds and unsystematic management.
