Abstract
  • Maritime safety is an ongoing concern, with thousands of fatalities occurring annually due to insufficient emergency response and signalling devices during Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. Traditional lifejackets often rely on active signalling devices constrained by limited power sources and operational complexities. This study addresses these challenges by designing a novel lifejacket prototype incorporating a passive visual signalling feature (PVSF). Utilizing the ADDIE methodology (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate), the research evaluates the performance of the developed prototype in a controlled conditions. Results indicate the feasibility and high possibility of the PVSF enhances visibility through retroreflective materials and deployable neon streamers, offering a reliable and cost-effective solution for improving survival rates during maritime emergencies. The findings highlight the potential for broader applications in the maritime safety industry.
